GCL Silicon Technology Holdings Inc. (“GCL Silicon”) is one of the leading China-based producers of polysilicon, the primary raw material used in the production of solar cells and modules for the generation of electric power from solar energy. GCL Silicon commenced construction of its polysilicon production facility, which produces solar grade polysilicon, in July 2006. The company made its first commercial shipment of polysilicon in October 2007.
In June 2008, Milestone Capital was the lead investor in a round of equity financing for GCL Silicon. In July 2009, GCL Silicon was acquired by a Hong Kong-listed company, GCL-Poly Energy Holdings Limited (Ticker: 3800.HK), at a consideration of US$ 3.4 billion.
